Micayla is a miracle worker, I will start with that. I sit at a desk, stare at monitors and, despite exercising quite a bit, I have some pretty severe back and hip issues. Three months into PT (without full resolution), my doctor at HSS endorsed a regimen of pilates as part of my therapeutic plan. The initial couple of weeks was hard work as I realized I had long neglected some muscles key to stabilizing core/back/hips. First, I am an awful pilates student, and Micayla is an excellent teacher. If not for the latter, I probably would have quit before I realized the full benefits. I stuck to the pilates religiously, even after I was done with PT. The way it worked for me was that after a few weeks, I started noticing an uptick in flexibility. After a few months I noticed an uptick in strength and then I started noticing better posture at my desk and not as much inflammation in my back after hard workouts at the gym. Pilates works. It is not a overnight fix, but if you are determined to get your body back in good working order, therapeutic pilates is a game-changer. Run.. walk.. limp... to Micayla and you will thank yourself.

As her colleague, I know Micayla to be one of the most trustworthy and hard working people I’ve ever met. I can personally attest to the fact that her knowledge of the human body is astounding. She uses that knowledge to go above and beyond for her clients in tailoring each class to specifically meet their needs. I look up to her in my own work, and would recommend her to anyone without hesitation.

As her student, I see a teacher who is selfless, genuine, and caring. I came to Micayla with a chronic pain I had for many years. After countless hours of physical therapy and still not knowing what was wrong with my body, I was feeling pretty helpless. In just one session, Micayla was able to pinpoint exactly what we needed to work on and helped me access muscles I had never been able to activate because of the surrounding injury. For the first time in a long time, I walked out of a movement class feeling rejuvenated, motivated, and most importantly pain free.

Several months later, Micayla is still showing that level of attentiveness in our sessions that allows me to feel safe. Her words and cues continue to be effective, to the point that they create a lasting impact in my muscle memory. Working with Micayla is not just meeting with a Pilates instructor for an hour or two of your week. It is a commitment to take care of your body and ignite a positive change in lifestyle.

My body had gone through a lot of physical stress intensified by years of working out, injuries, and most recently, cancer, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I didn’t want my health condition to stop me from moving but the last thing I wanted was to add strain to my body. I approached Micayla with the intention to unlearn and educate my body to move properly. She taught me the importance of balloon breaths, good posture, and that there is power in slow controlled movement.

She taught me the basic fundamentals of movements and progressions to challenge my level and showed me ways to sustain it. I’ve gotten to know my body more and its capacity. I now feel the mind and body connection.

Micayla has been instrumental in my wellness journey and healing. I truly enjoy every second of my sessions with her. She is a patient teacher, very encouraging, knowledgeable, and gentle. I have so much respect for her because her dedication and commitment to helping others definitely shows in the time and effort she puts in. Thank you Micayla.
